Not that good November 22, 2008 Just ordered and will return this item. Eventhough the Flip is easy to use, the quality of the video is poor at best. For $235 the quality should be better. My Nikon Coolpix digital camera takes better video and zooms much better.
Outstanding product, great value, few deficiencies November 22, 2008 This is the first video camera I've ever owned (I'm 58 yrs old), and I love it! Video quality is excellent (even in low light). I have not tried viewing it on a large TV, but the playback looks great on a 19" monitor. Best quality is observed at the "normal" size (about 8" diagonal) but the full screen version is perfectly acceptable. Audio quality indoors is good up to about 8 feet from the subject. Comments made by the person holding the camera while recording are extremely clear.br /Battery life so far has been NO ISSUE. A continuous 30 minute recording does not even move the battery charge indicator bar. Beware of incredibly large files though! A 30 minute recording will consume 900 Mb, and I've found no way to share files that large. There must be a way to convert the files to DVD on the computer, but I'm not savvy enough to figure it out yet. The included software says you can edit the files too, but the instructions have thus far eluded me. I consider that to be a user problem, not a product issue. Just be prepared to dedicate a LOT of computer memory to file storage!br /Another restriction is camera shake. Mino is so small and light that it's nearly impossible to hold steady. Pressing buttons to zoom or start/stop will almost certainly result in a shake, but most people will figure out how to clip the ends in editing. I did buy the little tripod which eliminates the problem.br /Despite the few difficulties, I do highly recommend this camera after 3 months use.br /
Love the Convenience November 19, 2008 I love the convenience of my Flip Video. It fits in my pocket so I can carry it anywhere. When I'm ready to download my videos, I plug the camera directly into my USB port and click on the prompts that pop up on my screen. I am not a technology geek, so this is the perfect video camera for me.br /br /Lucy Adams, author of If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny
Great Christmas Gift November 18, 2008 Bought 4 minos (Amazon had the best price), one for each of my adult children and one for my sister! It keeps us all connected! My sister is retired and RVs so she shares the wide-open spaces as she travels. Nothing beats viewing the grandkids on video almost instantly! I feel pretty smart with my Christmas shopping this year.
Flip Video Mino November 14, 2008 i purchased the mino just over a month ago. i was primarily looking for a video camera that was small, had a decent battery and made it easy to transfer the footage. the flip meets all three qualifications. i've used my flip more in the past few weeks than i've used my larger camcorder in the past three years collectively. it's small size makes it perfect to keep in my purse so that it's always at hand for the random, funny moments that you never expect but would love to have recorded. br /br /at first, i was concerned that the 60 minute battery life wouldn't be enough. however, in the past three weeks i've taken it out with friends, to a political rally, and on a weekend trip and have had plenty of time and battery life left. it's an extremely simple process to transfer the footage to your computer so i no longer have to worry about footage sitting on my camcorder for months at a time. plus, i really like that i can email it to my friends in a matter of minutes.br /br /so far, i have two negatives: (1) i was recording last weekend and it froze while i was recording. it wouldn't turn off so i had to let the battery die before i could do anything with it. thankfully, it froze just as i was finished recording. however, i am concerned that it may happen again. (2) the video editing software that is on the flip is extremely basic. to really do anything w/ your footage, you need to purchase additional software. while i didn't expect it to come w/ top-notch software, i thought it would be a little more advanced.br /br /a friend has the original flip and while it really isn't that much larger than the mino, i definitely prefer the mino. it's a sleeker design that is worth the extra few dollars. overall, i love my flip. i'm confident that i will record a lot more memories than i ever would have w/ a regular camcorder. br /
