A year later... August 2, 2010 M. Combes Compared to all of my HP Pavilion's, which have never given me a single problem, this Dell I bought has already died on me. I hardly ever used it. Now it won't boot, or it will start booting but then shut off unexpectedly. Wow, what a piece of junk. I have given away all my HP Pavilions that have lasted 8-plus years without a glitch, and yet this piece of flimsy junk already croaked. This is is my first Dell, and my very, very last. Three Pavilions, used and abused, and I have never had ONE single problem with them. From now on, it's HP all the way.
Very good computer July 31, 2010 Devin L. Chambers I have owned 2 other brands of computers in my lifetime besides Dell (Toshiba and HP) and Dells are by far the best PC's out there in my opinion. A lot of you are forgetting one thing in your reviews.. This computer comes with Vista - the crappiest OS ever made.. well, besides Millennium. When we bought it, we immediately ordered a Windows XP CD and it ran completely fine and always has! We just now upgraded to Windows 7 and it runs BEAUTIFULLY! Better than XP!
I suggest to you all to get rid of Vista. No computer runs GREAT with Vista.. it's almost impossible to find one that will.
Absolute garbage! July 26, 2010 Actor (Nowhere) This was my first and absolutely last Dell I will ever purchase. It's been a nightmare from
day 1.
The first machine they sent wasn't even installed properly--they didn't even screw in the disc drive, it was simply loose. Then it crashed constantly and you have to deal with their abysmal Banglore tech-support (broken English and crackling connection everytime-ugh!). They finally sent me a new machine which lasted about 6 months before the motherboard died. Now the latest machine got the black screen of death, so they are going to send me a new "refurbished" machine--oh joy! The only smart move I made was buying their extended warranty so everything is covered, but it's still a nightmare to deal with and has taken countless hours to resolve.
Even when the machine works it's performance is sub-par--even upgrading the RAM to 4G gave negligible results.
Just go online and you can read thousands of nightmare Dell stories--why anyone would buy one is beyond comprehension. Save yourself money and headaches and buy anything but a Dell.
One of the best PC's I've owned. July 21, 2010 Harkanwar Anand (New York, New York) I got my desktop with a 24 inch Dell monitor back in Feb 08 and I must say I have absolutely no complaints. I'm currently running Windows 7 on the desktop and it functions just as smooth as it did in the first three months.
I feel the CPU is a neat, space saving design, I also feel the included OEM Dell keyboard is under-rated, I love it. The other thing about the PC is that if you're not going to be using your computer for purposes such as gaming, I don't think you need to look further than the Inspiron.
Some neat features include easy accessibility to the USB ports, some are in front, some on the back. There is also a media card reader which reads most formats. One thing I found kind of odd about the computer was the fact that the DVD drive was vertical, I think this was to save the space but it's just slightly odd.
By default, this came with Vista and even despite being such a horrid operating system, this computer actually was optimized to run it and ran smooth as ever.
PLEASE NOTE : Almost every desktop computer I have had (many assembled, one old Busybee) have at some point or the other given me an electric shock while touching the wires or sometimes even the chassis.
I'm happy to say this never happened with my Dell.
My desktop has a 500GB HDD, some 6-8 usb ports, 2gb ram (runs smooth, without any issues, even with windows 7)
I have never truly tried out the graphics card so I don't know about that.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the build quality, performance, design and price of the product. It's a shame this isn't very popular.
It came with Microsoft Works and Windows VIsta CD with a drivers installation cd.
Piece of advise - Always buy 2 year warranty. The included hardware is good but you never know. I never once used my warranty and therefore didn't renew it at the end of 2 years.
I can fix/replace most parts on my own if need be.
I also have a MAC 21.5 inch and both computers are excellent.
Which one should you buy? If you've never used MAC and lack the patience to learn something new, get the Dell series of desktops.
SHAME on Dell! I got ripped off, since this PC died! May 26, 2010 CQ DX (Ohio, USA) I purchased the Inspiron 530S, with Win Vista, 3 GB RAM, and the Conroe Dual Core E2200 back in November 2008. Despite 'babying' my PC (I greatly care for all my electronic equipment and gadgets), and using it in a temperature controlled, nonsmoking environment, it died on me recently (does not turn on) after 1 and a half years of use! Now I am stuck with a PC that is a few months out of warranty, and the PC tech at 'Best Buy' (who ran a diagnostic) told me that either the power supply or the motherboard is bad. I've had at least 3 desktop units in the past (Apple, Compaq, and locally assembled generic), and all of them lasted at least 6 or more years with no problems. Dell should be ashamed of themselves for selling me a lemon! When I went to their website to e-mail or talk to a Customer Service Rep, they wanted to charge me for the call! Needless to say, I will never again buy Dell. I am through with them.
