Bad Circuit September 1, 2010 S. Shin (San Jose, California) If you connect more than one power hungry device like 2.5" external HDDs or iPods,
it will disconnect all other existing connections and will not supply
enough power to the device. Then you will have to disconnect the hub itself from
the computer, and connect again. I used this product over a year, but it always
was painful to use. It's good for simple devices like flash drives,
but not more than that. It's not really a powered-USB-hub even though it comes
with a power-brick. Looks good, but that's it. Avoid this product.
Its good but some issues. August 25, 2010 S. Celestin 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all i thought that it would feed power from the laptop itself. Instead it has a power cord that you have to plug in order for it work AT ALL. I found It will not turn on if the cord is not attached. and it cord length is pretty short. not very good if you power source is across the room and your desk is elsewhere. But other than that. i works like it should, the actual hub seems plastic but built nicely. its semi- transparent so you can see the usb ports inside which looks kind of nice.
Sexy but why the high CPU usage? August 7, 2010 Vox Florida 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Plugged this little number in, and then had to unplug it right back out, as 'System' in my task manager quickly ate up 90% or better of my CPU time, and stayed that way for hours. Apparently, this is a common problem with USB hubs when running under XP (R3).
I don't know who to be disappointed in, Belkin or Microsoft.
Poorly constructed USB hub August 3, 2010 Travis Richey (Hollywood, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't usually like writing bad reviews (I feel that people generally only say something if it's bad, so why not combat that trend?), but as I'm sitting here searching Amazon for a hub to replace this one, which has *never* worked properly, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.
The basic problem is that the ports are very loose. I suppose making them shallow (the plugs don't slide in as far as on regular-sized hubs) is what allows them to make it so small. And it is *very* small. But because the USB cables I have plugged into it don't sit snugly, they're very loose, and because of that, the connection isn't solid. I was using it for external hard drives, and I was constantly getting warnings that I hadn't ejected the drive before I unplugged it, and i hadn't unplugged it!
And if it doesn't work to the point of unusabiility, than I think it gets one star and a warning to my fellow shoppers. I recommend going with something a little sturdier.
Great product June 25, 2010 T. Jones This is a great 7 port hub. It takes up very little space on my desk, yet it is very functional. I'm able to transfer files just as fast as if I was plugged into the usb ports on my computer. The only downside is the power cable is short. You will need an outlet or power strip near by. Overall, I love it...100% satisfied.
