Amazon.com Product Description It's easy to keep within your budget but get everything you need in a notebook for home, school or home office with the Acer Aspire LX.A5505.107. Affordable and nicely portable at 6.2 pounds, the LX.A5505.107 is powered by AMD's Sempron 2800+ processor and has a large 15-inch LCD screen. It also offers a 40 GB hard drive, up to 2 GB of RAM (256 MB installed), a combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, and 54g wireless network connectivity. p bThe Basics/bbr ul liiHard Drive:/i Since the focus is on affordability, this Acer Aspire comes with just a 40 GB hard drive. While this may have sounded gigantic at one time, it is one of the smallest hard drives you'll find in a desktop computer. That said, it offers more than enough room for home office productivity software, storing family photos, and a decent-sized digital audio library. liiProcessor:/i A lower-end cousin to AMD's XP processor line, the 1.6 GHz AMD Sempron 2800+ found in this desktop is compatible in speed with Intel's 2.6 GHz Celeron processor. It's speedy enough for everyday computing needs and running office productivity software, but won't be quite enough for higher-end video editing or 3D gaming. This processor features AMD's Cool'n'Quiet Technology, which conserves power while also keeping the notebook's decibels to a minimum. It also features up to a 1600 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 256 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) liiMemory:/i The 256 MB of installed RAM (DDR333) will get you started, but you'll want to add more to handle any kind of multimedia application and most business productivity suites. This notebook has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity. liiCD/DVD Drive:/i This notebook includes a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, with 24x write/read and 10x rewrite speed for CDs and 8x read speed for DVDs. liiKeyboard Mouse:/i This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. /ul bScreen, Graphcs and Sound/bbr This Acer Aspire features the SiSM760GX chipset with integrated Mirage 2 graphics for acceptable viewing of movies and gameplay. Its 15-inch screen has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. It also features internal speakers, an integrated microphone, and Microsoft DirectSound capability. p bConnectivity and Expansion Slots/bbr This Acer Aspire has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also includes a basic offering of external connections: ul li3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players li1 VGA for external monitor li1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack /ul It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems). p bPreloaded System and Software/bbr This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system. It also comes loaded with Acer Arcade, eManager, and Launch Manager; CyberLink PowerProducer, and Norton AntiVirus. p bDimensions and Weight/bbr This notebook measures 14.3 x 11 x 1.5 inches (WxDxH) and weighs 6.2 pounds. p bPower/bbr It comes with a fiyr-cell lithium ion battery with up to 1.5 hours life depending on usage (2.5 hours recharge time with system off, 3.5 hours with system in use). p bWhat's in the Box/bbr This package contains the Acer Aspire LX.A5505.107 notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. It is backed by a one-year limiited hardware warranty.
Product Description Driven by the Mobile AMD Sempron processor, the Aspire 3000 is the ideal notebook if you want a stylish, well-connected, easily portable notebook that's big on features - and value.

My first laptop November 9, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I didn't realize how nice it is to take a little computer like this to the waiting rooms at Drs auto service. I purchased some head phones with a little microphone for $20 and play movies or a "learn spanish" program I have. It finds the internet where ever I go but I don't use it for internet. It is a low end laptop which means the graphics card won't run the Battlefield series of games and may not run some of the other I don't know because I don't those type of games on it. IT has done everything I want it to do.
Acceptable, not really portable October 24, 2005 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am a Mac bigot, but needed a cheap notebook for my real estate business. This product fits the bill, but the battery power is useless: for a test I just left it unplugged doing nothing, and the battery died after about 90 minutes. However the screen is good, the speed is acceptable and the WiFi works flawlessly. Buy this if you need to get a cheap notebook - avoid it if you actually need to work away from a power outlet.
Cost-effective desktop replacement September 8, 2005 42 out of 42 found this review helpful
Yes, it's inexpensive. Yes, the battery only lasts about an hour before recharging. Yes, the touchpad gets very warm. Yes, it has what you need for internet access, word processing, general photo editing, and other business or school work. In early June, 2005 I bought my Acer Aspire 3002LCi because it has 3 USB 2.0 ports, 802.11 b/g internal wireless, DVD player, CD-RW, and reasonable processor speed. I paid $699 and recieved $200 back in rebates (total of $499). I added an extra 512 MB of RAM for about $100. I've been very happy with the performance. The wireless internet works wonderfully at home, at the airport, in hotels, and in a variety of coffeshops all over the country. The DVD player works great (with additional external speakers or headphones). I use a 100 GB external hard drive to keep my data mobile, and I'm pleased with the USB data transfer rate. I regularly edit 3 to 6 megapixel photos with no trouble; the images are usually JPEGs between 0.4 and 1.5 MB, but I have a few 10 to 12 MB TIFFs that can be edited with bearable processing delays. I run Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint mostly). A couple months ago I put together 6 hours of Powerpoint lectures that went off without a hitch. Projection worked fine via the video port once I remembered to set it up with Acer's presentation software (included). Bottom line: if you have limited funds, don't run high-end processor-heavy applications, and don't mind keeping the power plugged-in, then this computer is exactly what you're looking for. I am satisfied with minor compromises in performance for the price.
