Amazon.com Product Description Audio-Technica's AT-PL120 direct-drive, high-torque professional turntable is perfect for DJs and other music enthusiasts, especially in an era that many would call "postvinyl," when it's no longer the norm for audio/video receivers or even integrated amplifiers to offer a dedicated phono input. A selectable internal stereo phono preamplifier lets you plug the turntable directly into any line-level input, even your PC's (when used with a stereo RCA to minijack "Y" adapter cable, not included). Alternately, you can use the player's phono output and an outboard, higher-quality phono preamplifier for even better sound quality.P The AT-PL120's S-shaped tone arm assembly comes with an adjustable counterweight, an antiskate adjustment, a tone-arm height adjustment and lock, a tone-arm lift with hydraulic action and lift lever, and a tone-arm rest with a locking mechanism to keep the arm stable during transport.P The turntable uses a DC servo motor to maintain accurate rotational speed at either 33-1/3 45, or 78 rpm, governed by a selectable, high-accuracy quartz-controlled pitch lock--all of which gives new life to 7- and 12-inch singles you may not have played for years.P Unleash your inner DJ with the 'table's pitch-adjustment feature, with variations ranging from either +/-10 percent or +/-20 percent. A pop-up stylus target light and stroboscopic platter speed indicator offer visual assistance in queuing and playing your favorite tunes. Forward and reverse play options unlock countless creative doors (and haven't you always wondered what Prince is saying at the end of "Darling Nikki"?).P The 'table comes with a cast-aluminum record platter, a slip mat, and a professional cartridge and headshell (model ATP-2) that plugs directly into the tone arm. Adjustable, antivibrational feet keep the platter level, regardless of your environs.P A start/stop button with remote start/stop input lets you integrate the player with your more sophisticated DJ tools. The player also includes a 45 rpm adapter with storage receptacle for the adapter and for a surplus or replacement headshell (sold separately).P bWhat's in the Box/bbr Turntable, removable hinged dust cover, slip mat, headshell/cartridge (ATP-2), AC power cord, 45 rpm adapter, and a user's manual.
Product Description Whether you play them in your personal crib, a warehouse rave, or the town's hottest club, your collection of black platters deserves the finesse and precision playback you can best administer with the ATPL120 Pro DJ Turntable. The ATPL120 has a built-in pre-amp. This means you can also connect this turntable to a home audio receiver component (or mini-stereo) that has an auxiliary audio input port. Features include: Built-in phono preamp Start / Stop button Pitch control Anti-skate adjustment Forward and reverse play Counterweight adjustment and stylus target light Strobe indicators Includes slip mat, A-T cartridge, headshell and hinged dust cover

Fantastic Value January 9, 2009 Fantastic value! I was considering buying the more expensive Technics SL1200mk2, but am glad to have opted for this one. Aesthetically, they are nearly identical. This is a beautiful machine. It works wonderfully, and I have had no problems with audio, humming or otherwise.
wonderful January 7, 2009 Bought this as a gift for family member. He loved this item. My observations: Beautiful to look at. Beautiful to listen to--great sound. Perfect response time. Quality made item. And the retailer who shipped this to me was very fast.
Some additional thoughts on the AT PL120 January 7, 2009 I've owned this table for about a year now and as an audio/vinyl enthusiast, I can't recommend it enough. For what it costs and all the turntable you get for the money, this is a no-brainer in my opinion. Many good review points have been made on the AT PL120 already to which I couldn't agree more. That said, I'd like to address the "Hum" issue and negative opinions I've read that a lot of users have encountered with this unit.br /br /In my experience with this table, the only time I've noticed "Hum" is when the PL120's internal pre-amp is set to ON, while being run through my receiver's (Yamaha RX-797) phono stage. When the tables internal pre-amp set to OFF, I don't notice any hum at all coming from my speaker system. So this issue may be a setup/user error. From what I understand, the PL120's internal pre-amp is designed to be used on computers or audio equipment that do not have a dedicated MM phono stage.br /br /From the AT PL120 User's Manual:br /br /If the system you are using has a PHONO input, set the pre-amp selector switch to the PHONO OUT (PRE-AMP OFF) position and connect the turntable's output cables to the PHONO inputs on your system, observing Red for Right channel and White for Left channel. br /br /If your system does not have a PHONO (magnetic phono) input, set the pre-amp selector switch to LINE OUT (PRE-AMP ON) and connect the turntable's output cables to the Auxiliary (AUX) or other audio level inputs on your system, observing Red for Right channel and White for Left channel. When using the turntable with a computer sound card, set the switch to LINE OUT and connect the turntable to the audio line input on the computer sound card. Note: An audio adapter (not included) may be required to interface the two RCA jacks of the turntable output cable to the computer sound card input.br /br /Hopefully this addresses and corrects the "Hum" problem that some people have experienced with this unit. Again, for what this turntable costs and for what the user gets, it's a terrific buy. It comes with a decent cartridge and stylus (ATP2XN) so you can get started in a matter of minutes right out of the box. I recently upgraded the cartridge on my PL120 with a Denon DL-160 High Output, Moving Coil Cartridge. The DL-160's high output allows this cartridge to be used through the Moving Magnet (MM) phono stage of a receiver/amplifier. It's been a great upgrade to this table and has brought even more enjoyment to my vinyl listening. I'm not going to go to deep into a cartridge review here. But for anyone that's been wanting to upgrade their cartridge on whatever turntable you have, the Denon DL-160 is a real bargain and it's taken the performance level of my AT PL120 to a whole new height. I hope these thoughts and my experiences have helped. br /br /If anyone were to ask me, Would you recommend the AT PL120? br /br /Answer: Absolutely! br /
Makes a great Christmas Present January 6, 2009 I got this for my brother. His wife said he wanted to start recording his old records on CDs. After extensive online research, this seemed to be the best solution for the money. Unlike the USB version, this can be used with a stereo system when not recording CDs.br / So far he has used this on his stereo component system and proclaimed it quite good. He downloaded a different software package for recording, but I haven't heard anything about recording to CDs.br /br /PROs: It's all there in the box, some assembly required. My brother is impressed with the numerous features. Nothing was hard to install or adjust. And he is very happy with the sound quality.br /br /CONs: As said, some assembly required. My brother had prior turntable experience, so this was easy for him. This may not be true for others.br /Also, the cables are a pain. They are captive, and short. We had to buy extension audio cables and plug adapters to mate it to the PC's sound card.
Great entry level turntable for listening to records January 5, 2009 Great turntable for someone with picky ears who wants to listen to vinyl at home. I thought about getting a cheaper turtable but I'm glad I went with this Audio-Techinca instead. It has some nice "DJ" features that might be useful for some folks, but I bet this would not be a good choice of turntable for a serious DJ who scratches records and all that. It does sound incredible through my basic home theater setup (receiver with powered sub and two tower speakers). I listen to mostly mint or near mint records and I could not be happier with the sounds I'm getting. Beck's "Sea Change" album sounds amazing and after hearing it on vinyl it's difficult to listen to it on my iPod because it sounds "flat" and less "full" by comparison. Took me about 20-30 minutes to get it assembled and setup (anti-skate and tracking force). The RCA cables are a little on the short side and it is strange that they chose to fix the RCA cables to the unit but make the power cord removable. Not a huge problem, but odd choice for sure. If you are looking for good sound from your records, do not buy a cheaper turntable than this. I do not get any hum/noise and all of my quality vinyl sounds fabulous. Very solid turntable. I'm sure you could find a better turntable, but only by spending much much more $$$. Great value here.
