A little disappointed January 8, 2009 I think I was expecting more 'sound' than I'm getting. How does one adjust the bass? When following the instructions for more bass, nothing seems to change. Supposedly by using button '12' in the instruction sheet to increase the bass the CD just skips. To make it more confusing, there are 2 buttons marked '12' in the sheet and neither one works. There is plenty of volume and the unit can be heard a couple of rooms away! No problem there. but the sound is slightly 'tinney' and isn't much better than the little boom box I've been putting up with for the last 3 years. I have little room so can't go for the stereo I use to have some years ago and which I dearly miss. All other features seem to be good. My daughter has a Sony shelf unit she purchased 2 years ago, comparable price range and features, and hers sounds wonderful! So, for sound alone I should give it no more than 1 star, but overall I've always like Sony products so will stretch it to 3 stars.
Great Sound from this little unit.... January 3, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought myself this nifty little mini-stereo unit for my living room after my cheap JVC player went kaput. Set-up was a cinch, even for someone with 2 left thumbs like me! These 2 little speakers emit beautiful AND powerful sound, and I get excellent AM/FM radio reception as well! br /br /My only complaint is that the remote does not have a function to open/close the CD drawer, which is my main use for the unit. But it is a minor complaint since I would have to get up to change the CD anyway! Highly recommended (you can get it at Best Buy for $109) if you're just looking for a unit to put in your living room or a bedroom - it fills the room with beautiful music!
Good little setup December 27, 2008 I bought this unit for my wife for 2 reasons; I wanted my wife to be able to dock her IPod Touch 2g into a stereo for her dressing room and it had an antenna input. We live in a really hilly area and, although were are relatively close to the station she listens to, we get bad reception. I paired it with a Terk amplified FM antenna and still get pretty poor reception. I think it's us not the unit. Once I put it into mono, the FM sounded better. You have to fuss a bit to get the IPod and the unit to work together but it sounds good once you do. I deducted one star becuase of the clunky interface and the full range speakers but I think this is a good setup for a bedroom or other secondary room where convenience trumps accoustics. Well worth the price.
Exactly what I'd expect from Sony! December 21, 2008 I have a fairly large bedroom, and this stereo is perfect for it. The sound quality is great, very clear, and it's plenty loud. At half volume it's already as loud as I'd ever play it, and it still sounds good. The remote's great, and you could theoretically completely control your iPod using it. But since the stereo doesn't display the name of the song playing, or the menu you're browsing (it just says "iPod"), you have to squint at your iPod's screen. This might just be my iPod though; I'm using an ancient iPod mini. The system doesn't come with a dock plate for it, but it works just fine. Nothing particularly impressive about cd playback, but it's nice to be able to play mp3 cds. The FM antennae included is very long; it's probably be easy to connect to an external one, but the one that comes with it doesn't work very well. Overall, a great stereo that I would (and am) recommend to friends.
Think Trice December 18, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Sound is cheap. System is Cheap. Not sure if it's the speakers or the system, but there is little bass..and I'm not a huge bass lover. I was also expecting a two (red/white) aux. input jacks, but there the aux. that is listed as a feature is only a single slim jack in the front. I'm not even sure what I can do with it but plug in my MP3 player. I got this from a rewards program, not from Amazon (sorry Amazon), but if I had got it from you it would be back in the box and on it's way back. Clearly this system is best for someone who really doesn't care about sound, and would be fine in an work office, but it is no way good for you living room to listen to tunes and relax. The price on this should be no more that $70.
