5 out of 5 stars Love My Navigon   January 10, 2009
I am new to this type of product and I found this one easy to learn and easy to use. It has a clear voice speaking and very good navigation directions. I wish I had gotten one sooner.

4 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but a lot of bang for the buck   January 9, 2009

This is my first GPS, so I didn't have any preconceived notions about how the Navigon should stack up against other units. All of the basic GPS functions, the routing, traffic, speed limits, etc. seem to work great. I've been very pleased with its accuracy. The satellite links almost instantly, even in the heavy fog we've had this week. The touch screen does require a bit more pressure to make a selection than my iphone, but wasn't a problem once I got used to it. br /I found the number of POI's to be quite adequate. I'm usually searching for a gas station, a fast food place or an ATM. Not everything is displayed, but there is always a good selection that pops up on my screen at any given time. Any more would clutter the screen, even with the small icons. br /There is one feature that could use some work. The bluetooth feature was able to find my iphone every time, but having to re-pair as a new connection every single time is a bit of a pain. Also, occasionally I have to unpair and pair again from the iphone for the Navigon to find it. I'm just getting used to allowing a couple of minutes extra if I want to pair my phone with the Navigon. Even if it can't find the phone automatically, it would be nice to be able to enter the phone as a preset and not have to re-enter the pin number on the GPS and phone each time as if it's a brand new connection.br /I love the size of the GPS, the carrying bag, and the windshield mount. The nice graphics, fast satellite acquisition, accurate routing, speed limit display and free traffic score this GPS 5 stars. The cumbersome bluetooth connection process causes me to subtract a star.br /Overall, a nice GPS for the price!

4 out of 5 stars Great Item   January 8, 2009

The Navigon is pretty cool just a few minor cons to it so here are the pros and cons. br /br /Pros: Lane assistant and reality view is great while driving. It lets you know exactly where you are suppose to be. It has adjustable volume. It has a lot of point of interest to choose from.br /br /Cons: The touch screen sometimes does not pick up your first touch. The battery life is short. There is no Wall adapter. You have to adjust how to put in addresses. br /br /I would still say the pros way out weigh the cons though.

4 out of 5 stars Solid product that works well   January 8, 2009

This is my first GPS unit and I have been using it for 3 weeks now. So far I find it to be very reliable if a bit quirky. br /br /The screen has a very nice resolution and the audio is plenty loud enough to hear even over my stereo. I love the turn by turn directions with street names, distance, direction of turn, etc. Very helpful and very accurate. Also very nice is the 3-D view of highway exit signs/lanes that pops up where applicable. Very helpful in knowing exactly what lane to get into and how to use the exit properly.br /br /The screen displays a ton of information, actually, and I like this feature. Others may not, however, as it might seem cluttered and it could be a bit hard to read for some. It warns you if you are speeding but you can control this feature if it bothers you.br /br /Text to speech works well but it is time consuming to use as you have to speak after prompts. I have not used it too much but I probably will in the near future.br /br /The touch-screen works just fine for me but it has a different sensitivity than I am used to. Once I adjusted the settings a bit and got used to how it wanted input, it was fine and I have no issues with it.br /br /Bluetooth works fine but my GPS unit is a bit far from my driving position so people could not hear me too well. Maybe that has to do with this device...I cannot say. It is not a feature I will use too often.br /br /A bit less exciting to me was the menu system. It is not that intuitive overall although it is functional for most things. I wish that there was a better way to alter a route once you have begun navigation along that route. Or maybe there is but I have not found it yet. Usually you will tell it where you want it to take you and it will plan the route. You can tell it to avoid or forbid certain types of roads (toll roads, etc.) but I have found that it does not always play nice with the parameters I give it. br /br /Nevertheless, it gets me where I want to go. The traffic updates are nice (and free for life) but I am not sure how helpful they will be most of the time. I need to play with the re-route feature someday to see how it decides to avoid traffic that is sees. br /br /One other complete oddity...my unit shipped with a soft carry case that was about 1/2" too small to fit the unit. That made little sense but, fortunately, I had also purchased the hard carry case. It does come with a screen protector and I found that out too late...I had already bought a pack of 5 and applied one of them before I even noticed it. Oops.br /br /Overall, I really enjoy the product and it works as well as expected. There are quirks but because this is my first GPS, I am not able to evaluate how those quirks stack up versus competing models.
