Great for a DVD player January 4, 2009 If you're looking for a device to play dvds, then this Denon 1740 is great. You can never go wrong with the Denon brand. I have nothing bad to say about the dvd player My only recommendation to audiophiles out there is if you have a 1080p HDTV save your money for a blue ray player.
Good but doesn't read SACD December 12, 2008 It's a good DVD but doens't read SACD. That's why i changed for a 1940 Denon DVD, that's read SACD and has more resources. If you just want to have a good DVD and doens't need to read SACD, Denon 1740 it's an excellent option, affordable and best cost benefits.
Great dvd player June 18, 2008 After three attempts at getting a midrange dvd player (mid $80 range) and not getting a single one that did not have issues, finally went up scale and found it was worth the money. Plays all the dvd without problems, loads much faster, upscaling is great.
darn good March 25, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was unprepared for how good the Denon DVD-1740 would be. The quality of the upconversion is just great.
Sad experience... June 4, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought a Denon 1730 DVD player yeah it was dead in about 45 days from purchase. Tech Support says send it in we will fix it.. after 4 weeks I receive a 'factory refurbished' (laugh) unit that has scratches on it and growls like a pit bull all the time, on ANY disk. Sounds like the motor is unbalanced or has a bad bearing. So after failing to build it (the one I bought) right and then failing to fix it I get one that they failed to build right and they failed to fix AND it has scratches on it. 4 Failures ... not very impressive. What is Denons answer to this? 'Send it back we'll try to fix it again' for an additional 4-6 weeks. I told them I no longer want any of their product and I have asked for my $ back and expect a long fight over that.br /br /Do lemon laws apply in a case like this? br /br /I understand getting a bad product from a good company but how long am I supposed to wait for them to make it right? I bought it 12/31/06 and used it to mid Feb, then used it to March if it decided to work that day.br /br /Tech Support is running through the standard tech script and I am tired of it.
