I bought these Acousti Audio (further AA) on e**y auction for $10. These are true "white van" speakers - by that I mean that most if not all of the specs are way overestimated as well as their MSRP.
I compared these side-by-side to Klipsch Promedia computer speakers connected to the same receiver (about 10 years old), which can be found on e**y for less then $20 a pair.
I previously compared my Polk Audio CS2 center speaker to the Klipsch ProMedia - Polk sounds about 3-4 times better. In turn, Klipsch Promedias sound about 10 times better than these Acoustic Audio speakers.
To summarize audio performance of these speakers:
* These are very hard to drive. I was driving these with Onkyo TX-SR707 and the volume had to be turned high to get sufficient volume level. Small Klipsch ProMedia speakers sounded about twice as loud (and as clear) as the AA speakers and the larger Polk Audio CS2 sounded about 5 times as loud at the same volume level. The 300 watt (150 watt RMS) is just a trick to make you believe that these are powerful - they are not!
* The sound on these is very dull, muffled and unclear, they sound like they were inside a closed can. Promedias on another hand sound much more lively, Polk even better.
* A lot of Midrange and High frequency range is missing on AA. Comparing these side-by-side with Promedias I can hear that AA speakers just can't produce some frequencies - and I know that ProMedias themselves are not that good (compared against my Polk speakers for example).
* Virtually no bass, which is expected from the 4" drivers. Not really a con as small speakers usually need a sub, just to notice that there is no way they will go down to 37Hz like mentioned in specs.
I realize that these are very cheap, but they are very cheap in both price and sound quality. You will be much better off buying a pair of small bookshelf speakers of any of the known brands (like JBL, Yamaha, Klipsch, Polk, Sony etc). You may pay twice the price, but you will at least get sound that you can listen to and enjoy. With these you will just waste a small amount of money and will eventually want to get better speakers anyway.
