Product Description Take a look at Onkyo's first home theater system capable of passing 1080p video and studio-master-quality audio, such as DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD. With HDMI version 1.3a as your link, the HT-SP908 becomes a home theater dynamo with some real versatility. The 7.1-channel A/V receiver and HD conversion DVD/CD/MP3 player combine to expertly handle DVD, broadcasts, CDs, digital music and video files from your computer, and satellite radio. You can also bring your iPod to the party with the included RI Dock, which neatly integrates the device into your home entertainment system. With many of the features found in Onkyo's high-def A/V receiver line-up - Audyssey 2EQ, Faroudja DCDi, RIHD, HDMI and component video upconversion - the HT-SP908 looks every bit the total solution.

Nice System January 2, 2009 Overall, this is the best Home Theater System in a Box out there for the price. br /Pros:br /* HDMI 1080P Switching br /* Comes with a HDMI cablebr /* Onkyo 605 Receiverbr /* Multi-source/multi-zonebr /* DVD player 1080p upscalingbr /* 230W 10" subwooferbr /* IPOD DOCKbr /* Price ($500)br /br /Cons:br /* Runs a little warmbr /* Front, Center and Surround Speakers could be better (they require a lot of power)br /* Only 2 HDMI inputsbr /br /http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=HT-SP908class=Systemsp=ibr /
Solid system for the price, but beware of limitations December 29, 2008 As a few other reviewers have noted, this Onkyo home theater in a box is solid overall. But beware of a few things before committing to buy:br /br /1. The system is underpowered. At $600, I have to turn the volume up to 75% of its maximum to watch regular blu ray movies. Anything below that, you'll do better with the tv's speakers. Sure, the sounds great, but it has less power than my $200 computer speaker system, which should tell you something. By the way, I do not listen to loud music, so my hearing is fine.br /br /2. The receiver gets HOT and will need a lot of room for ventilation. Given the receiver's size, regular home theater furniture setups may need adjustments to create room.br /br /3. The speaker wires that come with the system are on the short side. You may need to buy additional wiring. br /br /On the plus side, a few things besides its general good quality:br /br /1. Setup is fairly straight forward. It'll take an entire afternoon, but everything's labeled and the instructional manual is not too thick.br /br /2. Comes with free HDMI cable.br /br /3. Looks pretty cool.
Great buy. December 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am using this product for almost 2 months now. I am really happy with this product. I did my thorough research before i bought this thing and now i am very happy with it. I got this system for $499.00. you can never beat this price with any other system when it comes to quality. br /br /I hooked up my ps3 and cable dvr box using HDMI. I didnt hook up my DVD player on to it because when i can play everyything on the PS3, why i need to hook the DVD player using other input devices and take a step back from HDMI. The dvd player is kinda slow also.br /br /As far as setup, after you setup the Audyssey, you have to do some minor changes to get a better sound. I increased the sound in the rear speakers. Also i am looking for suggestions from some experienced people that what levels of sound should we keep on each speaker for the best quality sound? i dont know the excat answer for you on that part. If you know please share.br /br /As far as buying accessories for the sound system. Do not waste money on monster cables. They are just outrageous. Go to monoprice.com and get some HDMI cables, they are the cheapest you can get, and they are outstanding cables for a fraction of the price any where else.br /br /You need to change you speaker wires also. the one comes with the system are cheap wires. Get some 16 guage wires and it will make a big difference in sound. I Bought all my accessories goes with the system from monoprice. You will be amazed how much money you save from there. i bought my wall bracket from there for $7.00 a pair which would cost me at the local store for 64 dollars a pair and the $7.00 is better than the one i got from the local store. same with my wall mount for the TV. i bought mine for $24.50 for an over $100.00 anywhere which will do the same job and great quality.
I'm loving it! December 10, 2008 Well I dove into a HTIB not feeling terribly comfortable with the quality of speakers that would come with a complete solution. the Onkyo HT-SP908 has been a peasant suprise for a HTIB. Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1 Channel Home Theater Systembr /When the huge box arrived, I made sure to inspect things carfully before the UPS guy left. A friend purchased a similar system that arrived a couple days before with gaping holes in the box and crushed speakers inside. At over 100lbs, no shipper is going to be kind to this type of delivery. Mine was fine.br /After unpacking and connecting I ran it through its paces, with KungFu Panda playing in the included DVD Player, the iPod dock running my 5th Gen Video iPOD (audio and video) as well as FM Stereo. All worked great and sounded great. br /THEN I tuned the system with the included microphone for the Audisy calibration option. Now it rocks! I am so happy!br /Enabling the double-base option low frequencies are not limited to the sub-woofer. The 7 suround speakers are digitally tunable to as low as 80 Hza cut off. This gives you low frequencies all around the room for rich sound. This is not possible in a Bose MicroSpeaker config which gives mostly mid/high in the surround speakers. br /br /Pros:br /Wii games, Video iPOD and DVDs sound great. I would love to play PS3 games on it.br /Solid construction.br /Audio spectrum is great on all of the speakers and is tunable.br /The price! (499 on Amazon).br /HDMI 1.3a Relay allows the amp to pull the full audio directly from the DVD Players MDHI cable. Do not get a reciever with HDMI SWITCHING! It will require additional cables from the TV back to the reciever. this does NOT require that. The HMDI 1.3a based 7.1 audio is awesome!br /Nice small remote control.br /br /Cons:br /The remote relies on many of the buttons being multifunctional which confuses the others in my house. I wrote a cheat-sheet on the order to press the buttons to turn on the TV and start the DVD player. ;-)br /The 2nd remote is not really necessary since the recievers remote runs all of the same functions. Just there if you ever separate the DVD Player from the receiver. (Like when I get a BlueRay player some day).br /The speakers are a bit large for surround sound, but again, this is a compromise for a wide frequency range. I'm trying to find 360 degree wall mounts for the rear 4 speakers.br /The Sub is a bit oversized compared to other HTIBs - it still fits under one of the end tables though.br /Only 2 HDMI inputs. Limits connection options a bit, but oh well. 1 for DVD/BlueRay and 1 for a future HD DVR. If you need more HDMI inputs this is not for you, or you will need an external HDMI switch.

This a good system, I like it so far. Once I heard a loud noise, like somebody is knocking on the door.
